In 2019, Government of India transferred the ‘Regulations of HFCs’ from National Housing Bank (NHB) to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) by amending the National Housing Bank Act, 1987. Consequently, RBI reviewed the regulatory framework as applicable to HFCs and issued number of notifications, directions, guidelines and instructions to HFCs. RBI also clarified that the HFCs will continue to be supervised by NHB as hitherto.
